Step 2: Hold down Ctrl key (Cmd on macOS) and highlight the ones you need.

This tutorial will show you how to insert animated GIFs in PowerPoint presentations to demonstrate an activity, convey a message, or grab the audience’s attention.

Step 1: Start by opening PowerPoint and navigating to the slide where you want to add the animated GIF. Click on Insert in the top navigation and double click on Pictures. 

Step 2: If you have an animated GIF on your computer, choose the file from its location and click Open.

When you play the slideshow during a presentation, the GIF is animated automatically.

Insert an Animated GIF In Powerpoint From Online Image Search

Step 1: Click on Insert in the top navigation and choose Online Pictures (PowerPoint 2013 and later.)

Step 2: Search in the popup box for an image to use in your presentation. You can narrow your search by typing gif.

  By default, Creative Commons only is checked off. You only want to use images that are legal in your presentation so keep it checked.

Step 3: Select the image you want to use and click Insert to add it to your slide. Narrow your search even more by using specific keywords. For example, typing office GIF will only show animated images related to an office.

For starting a live presentation, you must have a Microsoft 365 account to access PowerPoint Live with PowerPoint.

Shortcut #1: White Screen

W (while in Slide Show Mode) will turn the screen completely white. Hit W once more, and you will return to your slide.

 

To record and listen to audio associated with your screen recording, you'll need a sound card, microphone, and speakers.

Make sure there's enough disk space on your local drive to record and save your screen recording.

Step 1: Open the slide that you want to put the screen recording on.

Step 2: On the Insert tab of the ribbon, select Screen Recording.

Step 3: On the Control Dock, click Select Area (Windows logo key+Shift+A), or, if you want to select the entire screen for recording, press Windows logo key+Shift+F. 

Tip: PowerPoint automatically records the audio and the mouse pointer, so by default those options are selected on the control dock. To turn them off, deselect Audio (Windows logo key+Shift+U) and Record Pointer (Windows logo key+Shift+O).

Step 4: Click Record (Windows logo key+Shift+R). 

Tip: Unless you pin the Control Dock to the screen, it will slide up into the margin while you record. To make the unpinned Control Dock reappear, point the mouse cursor at the top of the screen.

Step 5: To control your recording:  

Step 6: When you are finished recording, save your presentation: File > Save. The recording is now embedded on the slide you selected in step 2.

To save the recording itself as a separate file on your computer, right-click the picture on the slide that represents the recording, and select Save Media as. In the Save Media As dialog box, specify a file name and folder location, then click Save.

 

The fastest way to remove an image background is to use the Set Transparent color tool. The only catch is this only works for removing solid colors, like white backgrounds.

 

When you crop an image, a part of the picture is removed. Cropping may be helpful when a picture has a lot of content and you want to focus on only part of it.

Step 1: Select the image you want to crop. The Format tab appears.

Step 2: On the Format tab, click the Crop command.

  Step 3: Cropping handles will appear around the image. Click, hold, and drag a handle to crop the image.

  Step 4 Click the Crop command again. The image will be cropped.

Compress all pictures 

Step 1: Select the picture you want to compress, then click the Format tab.

Step 2: Click the Compress Pictures command.

Step 3: Apply only to this picture: This check-box, when selected enables you to compress just the selected picture. If you want to compress all the pictures in the presentation, make sure you deselect this check-box. 

Step 4: Place a check mark next to Delete cropped areas of pictures.

Step 5: Choose a Target output. If you are emailing your presentation, you may want to select Email, which produces the smallest file size. When you are done, click OK.

High fidelity: This is the default option for picture compression in PowerPoint 2016, and you may see it always greyed out. This option preserves the quality of the original picture unless it exceeds the size of the document canvas. 

HD (330 ppi): Choosing this radio button will enable compression for Screen resolution to display the presentation on high-definition displays. Some projectors have a higher resolution than a monitor. 

Print (220 ppi): Select this radio button if you are printing the presentation on paper; it keeps the photos at a resolution where they will look crisp on a printout.

Web (150 ppi): Choosing this radio button will enable compression for Screen resolution to display the presentation using a projector or distributing via Internet.

E-mail (96 ppi): Select this radio button if you are e-mailing the presentation to others, because this lower setting results in a smaller file that will transmit more easily via e-mail 

Consider the difference in file size if you embed an entire YouTube video in your presentation instead of linking back to it. Embedding an entire video will significantly increase the size of your presentation. There are certainly some valuable benefits when embedding a file vs. linking to it (such as when the recipient might not have internet access to play the video), but if the file size is an issue, just don’t do it.
