Hidden Applications In Windows XP

These applications are very helpful if you know how to use it and if you have no idea how to use it then you can always learn.

You might be wondering why are they called "Hidden Applications"? well it is because Windows XP doesn't put a shortcut icons for any of the software so not many people know about it.

Step 1: Click on the START and click RUN

Once the run windows pops up then start typing the executable name.

 1. IExpress Wizard = iexpress.exe (Create self-extracting / self-installing package)

 2. Character Map = charmap.exe (Very useful for finding unusual characters)

 3. DirectX diagnosis = dxdiag.exe (Diagnose & test DirectX, video & sound cards)

 4. Dr Watson = drwtsn32.exe (Troubleshooting tool)

 5. Clipboard Viewer = clipbrd.exe (Views contents of Windows clipboard)

 6. Disk Cleanup = cleanmgr.exe

 7. Private character editor = eudcedit.exe (Allows creation or modification of characters)

 8. Windows Media Player 5.1 = mplay32.exe (Retro version of Media Player, very basic)

 9. Windows Media Player 6.4 = mplayer2.exe (Retro version of Media Player)

 10. Microsoft Synchronization Manager = mobsync.exe (Appears to allow synchronization of files on the network for when you want to work offline)

 11. Registry Editor = regedt32.exe [also regedit.exe] (To edit the Windows Registry. Please be very careful while editing your registry because if you mess up then you will not be able to even turn on your computer)

 12. Object Packager = packager.exe (To do with packaging objects for insertion in files, appears to have comprehensive help files)

 13. System Monitor = perfmon.exe (Very useful, highly configurable tool to monitor your computer)

 14. Syskey = syskey.exe (Secures XP Account database - use with care, it's virtually undocumented but it is used to encrypt passwords).

 15. System Configuration Editor = sysedit.exe (To modify System.ini & Win.ini just like in Win98! ).

 16. Volume Control = sndvol32.exe (I have included this for those people that lose it from the System Notification area).

 17. File Signature Verification Tool = sigverif.exe

 18. System Configuration = msconfig.exe (You can use it to control startup programs – handle with care)

 19. Group Policies = gpedit.msc  (It is used to manage group policies, and permissions)

 20. Microsoft Telnet Client = telnet.exe

 21. Network Shared Folder Wizard = shrpubw.exe (It creates shared folders on network).

 22. Windows For Workgroups Chat = winchat.exe (Appears to be an old NT utility to allow chat sessions over a LAN, help files available)

 23. Netmeeting = conf.exe (It is a client just like winchat but winchat is limited to LAN whereas Netmeeting works on the Internet)

Hope you enjoy it. Have fun!
